The Nebra HNT Hotspot Miner is available in three frequency options:

470 MHz (CN470) is a good frequency for China.
868 MHz (EU868, IN865, RU864) – this frequency is suited for the European Union, India, Russia, and a number of other countries.
915 MHz (US915, AU915, KR920, AS923-1/2/3) – suitable for the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and a number of South American and Asian countries.

In the Nebra miner, the frequency plan for the LoRa concentrator (for example US915 or AU915) is determined automatically based on the location that you choose for the “location assert”.

This only works inside a single frequency, thus you can switch from a US915 to an AU915 location, for example. However, you can’t switch from a US915 location to an EU868 or CN470 location without replacing the concentrator module.

Nebra Miner Proof of Insurance

When devices connect to the Nebra Miner, HNT Helium tokens are earned, as well as for validating wireless coverage offered by peers. Hotspot Miners earn more HNT when they’re in range of other miners, using a method called Proof-of-Coverage, but they must be at least 300 meters apart.

The range is determined by the surrounding environment:

The People’s Network can be accessed by millions of devices, each of which requires Data Credits (DC) to transfer data to the Internet. DC are manufactured by ‘burning’ HNT, reducing the overall supply to establish a Burn and Mint Equilibrium, and are fixed in value. The more DC devices there are, the more HNT is burned.

Helium’s LoRaWAN-based wireless network is ideally suited for low-power scenarios such as transferring data to and from sensors using low-cost radio waves, removing the need for more expensive networks such as cellular and WiFi.

It’s completely peer-to-peer, and it takes advantage of a large network of hotspots. The network can usually cover most cities with just 100 to 200 hotspots. In exchange for providing access to the LongFi network, hosts can earn $HNT by hosting hotspots.

How Do You Get Tokens?

Building and securing network infrastructure, as well as transporting device data, earns hotspots HNT. The amount of HNT given to Hotspots is determined by the type of “work” they do and the value they add to the network. A novel work algorithm known as Proof-of-Coverage is used to validate network contribution (PoC).

To take part in PoC, there must be many Hotspots in a given location that are at least 300 meters apart but yet within range of one another (up to many miles depending on environment). Because single Hotspots can only issue Challenges over the internet and cannot participate in Proof-of-Coverage, they earn less. The distribution amounts are adjusted after the first year.
